HVIAC Players of the Week - March 31

Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

David Cutler, Pratt

Sophomore • Outside Hitter • Calabasas, Calif.

Cutler helped Pratt secure two crucial league wins last week over St. Joseph's and Webb pounding 46 kills (6.57 per set) against only seven errors on 80 swings for a blistering .488 attack percentage and recorded double-doubles in both affairs.. Against St. Joseph's, Cutler slammed a season-best 27 kills and against Webb he slammed 19 kills in a straight-set triumph hitting .567 for the match.   

Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Brandon Ryan, Pratt

Freshman • Outside Hitter • Belchertown, Mass.

Ryan directed the Pratt attack in two HVIAC wins last week. Against St. Joseph's, he dished out 48 assists as the Cannoneers hit .353 for the match and followed it up with 18 assists the next night in a straight set win over Webb where the Cannoneers hit .341.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Sergio Yarritu, Pratt

Senior • The Woodlands, Texas

Yarritu went undefeated in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles play in leading Pratt to a 3-1 week that included three HVIAC wins. The senior surrendered just five games in total over a perfect 4-0 week at the top singles spot. In top doubles play, he teamed with Eli Eskenazi in going 3-0, including two 8-0 HVIAC triumphs, and with freshman Nick Minichiello for Sunday's 8-6 win over Culinary. 

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Nick Minichiello, Pratt

Freshman • Leonia, N.J.

Minichiello suffered just one loss in helping Pratt to a 3-1 record last week. The freshman compiled a 2-0 record at No. 4 singles, with wins over St. Joseph's and Webb, and a 1-1 record at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, Minichiello went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles and helped secure an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles in a league match at Culinary.

Softball Player of the Week

Rachel Mirsky, Yeshiva

Junior • Third Baseman • White Plains, N.Y.

Mirsky batted .455 (5-for-11) over the four-game week for the Maccabees collecting six RBI, five runs three doubles and a home run. The junior went yard in a losing effort at Lehman before leading Yeshiva to a doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge with five RBI and a 4-for-6 day at the dish. In the circle, Mirsky compiled a 1-1 mark and struck out 10 while surrendering just two hits and one run in the five-inning complete game victory over Valley Forge. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Theresa Armano, St. Joseph's

Freshman • Pitcher • Middle Village, N.Y.

Armano went 2-0 in the circle last week for St. Joseph's compiling a 2.84 ERA over 12.1 innings of work with two complete games. In wins over Valley Forge and Maine-Presque Isle, the freshman struck out 10, while allowing 13 hits and five runs.

Softball Rookie of the Week

Erica Eddy, St. Joseph's

Junior • Catcher/Second Baseman • Glendale, N.Y.

Eddy batted .600 (6-for-10) and slugged 1.100 to help lead St. Joseph's to a pair of doubleheader sweeps of Valley Forge and Maine-Presque Isle. Eddy collected seven RBI, five runs, three doubles and a triple over the four-game week.

Honor Roll

Maria Gentile, St. Joseph's • Softball

Gentile batted .833 (5-for-6) over a 4-0 week for St. Joseph's. The freshman accumulated four RBI, one run, and three doubles and was a perfect 13-for-13 in the field at first base to help the Lady Bears sweep Valley Forge and Maine-Presque Isle.

Joseph Lipton, Yeshiva • Men's Volleyball

Liptpon totaled 46 digs (3.54 per set), 12 kills (0.92 per set) and eight blocks (0.62 per set) over a four-match week for the Maccabees.

Cody Owen, Webb • Men's Volleyball

Owen helped the Webbies defeat Yeshiva in straight sets landing 10 kills with three blocks and two aces.

Herder Pisci, Berkeley • Men's Tennis

Pisci secured a 10-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Culinary and narrowly lost at the top doubles slot falling in a tiebreaker.

Brynne Schlicher, Culinary • Men's Tennis

Schlicher compiled a 3-1 overall mark in helping the Steels to a 1-1 record in league play this weekend. The freshman secured wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles against defending champion Pratt.

Raul Urshela, St. Joseph's • Men's Volleyball

Urshela put down 15 kills at a .333 clip with eight digs and two blocks in the losing effort against Pratt.

Evan Wingfield, Webb • Men's Tennis

Wingfield was one of the top players for the Webbies at No. 2 singles in a losing effort against a strong Pratt squad.
