HVIAC Players of the Week - April 28

Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Zehn Laliwala, Culinary

Freshman • Bangalore, India

Laliwala was unblemished on the week in both singles and doubles play atop the Steels lineup helping Culinary clinch second place in the regular season standings. The freshman captured a 10-2 victory at No. 1 singles and 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles in a league match against St. Joseph's.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Jonghee Lee, Culinary

Freshman • Seoul, South Korea

Lee remained perfect at the No. 3 singles position on the season, taking home wins against St. Joseph's and Ulster County CC. He went 1-1 in doubles play in the No. 2 slot teaming up with Scott Schuett for an 8-5 victory over Ulster.

Softball Player of the Week

Kristin Ferrigno, St. Joseph's

Sophomore • Third Baseman • Brooklyn, N.Y.

Ferrigno was the catalyst for the Lady Bears offense batting .500 (9-for-18) out of the leadoff spot with a .571 on-base percentage. She was the only Lady Bear to hit successfully in five of six games this past week helping St. Joseph's to a 3-3 mark. The sophomore also scored eight times and drew three walks. Over a crucial USCAA Top 10 doubleheader with Briarcliffe, she batted 6-for-7 and scored four times. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Jamilynn McGowan, St. Joseph's

Sophomore • Pitcher • Staten Island, N.Y.

McGowan finished 2-1 in the circle with a 4.28 ERA for the Lady Bears. The sophomore tossed two complete games, including one shutout, and struck out 12. She shutout HVIAC foe Yeshiva throwing five scoreless innings, surrendering just five hits and fanning four. In a pivotal Top 10 USCAA matchup against Briarcliffe, McGowan held the Bulldogs to three runs, scattering six hits over seven innings, striking out four more, to improve to 8-7 on the season. 

Softball Rookie of the Week

Leah Ben-Zvi, Yeshiva

Sophomore • Utility • Great Neck, N.Y.

Ben-Zvi batted .429 (3-for-7) on the week for Yeshiva helping the Maccabees to a 3-1 mark over her four games played. The sophomore drove in a pair of runs over games against St. Joseph's and York and also scored once.

Honor Roll

Ahmed Aly, Vaughn • Men's Tennis

Aly posted a 3-1 record this week at the No. 5 singles position with HVIAC wins over St. Joseph's and Berkeley. 

Maria Gentile, St. Joseph's • Softball

Gentile drove in five runs and hit .235 with one double in a 3-3 week for the Lady Bears. She also scored five times, drew one walk and was perfect in 16 chances at first.

Erin Potasnick, Yeshiva • Softball

Potasnick batted 7-for-8 over a doubleheader sweep of York, driving in nine runs and scoring four times.
