Men's Soccer Downed by Cooper Union

Box Score
YONKERS, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was defeated by The Cooper Union, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Saturday.

Cooper Union came out firing, and recorded three shots in the first five minutes. In the 19th minute, Max Dowd was first on the scoreboard, netting a goal after a misplay by the SLC defense.

Sarah Lawrence (3-10) leveled the game in the 34th minute. Junior Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) fed a pass through the middle to forward Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy), who equalized the contest with his team-leading 10th goal of the season. The goal was the team's first against a non-conference opponent this season.

Cooper Union responded less than three minutes later when Charles Dorrance-King served up a free kick that found Eugene Sokolov, who put away the go-ahead score.

Though the Gryphons finished the first half with eight shots, the Green and White offense was held to just four more in the second half.

Cooper Union scored an insurance goal in the 74th minute off the foot of Dorrance-King with an assist by Max Dowd. Sokolov rounded out the scoring in the 89th minute, fed by Eli Soffer.

In net for the Gryphons, goalkeeper Amit Sankaran (San Francisco, Calif./Mallya Aditi International) and Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) split time between the pipes, each allowing two goals and notching two saves. Cooper Union keeper Hunter McKane made five saves in the game.

Sarah Lawrence is back in action Sunday, when the Gryphons travel to SUNY College at Old Westbury for a noon game. SLC returns home on Wednesday to host NYU-Poly at 7 p.m.
