Box Score
HYDE PARK, N.Y.—Two second-half penalties proved costly, as Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer fell to Culinary Institute of America, 2-1, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) game on Saturday.

Sarah Lawrence (2-6, 2-2 HVMAC) out-shot Culinary (5-3-1, 2-2 HVMAC) by a 6-5 margin in the first half, but neither team managed to get on the scoreboard. The Steels' pressure forced five first-half corner kicks but the hosts were unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities.

In the second half, the Gryphons' aggressive play drew the attention of the officiating crew, and in the 59th minute, Sarah Lawrence was cited for a foul in the penalty area.

Culinary's Pablo Noriegas converted on the penalty-kick attempt to put the Steels in front, 1-0. In the 75th minute, Noriegas earned another penalty kick and successfully netted the second goal of the game.

In the 85th minute, Sarah Lawrence staved off the shutout when sophomore Kevin Russel (Bethesda, Md., Bethesda Chevy Chase) collected a pass from senior Harper Hunt (Paris, Texas, Paris) and found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 match. Despite a late charge by the Gryphons, the Steels managed stopped the last-second attempt and held on for the win.
