Panthers Open Season With a Victory over SUNY-ESF

The ACPHS men's basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season with a resounding 84-64 victory over SUNY-Environmental Sciences and Forestry on Saturday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y. Casey Redfern, the team's leading scorer last season, picked up right where he left off by scoring a game-high 28 points to lead the Panthers.

The Mighty Oaks jumped out to an early lead over ACPHS as they held a 12-4 advantage after a couple minutes of play, before both teams went back and fort with the lead. Behind Redfern's shooting and the inside tandem of Ryan McVaigh and Steven Brown, the Panthers were able to go into halftime with a 41-33 advantage.

In the second half, ACPHS extended the lead as they were able to force 27 turnovers on the defensive end which led to many opportunities on offense. Redfern shot a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line and also added seven rebounds while McVaigh contributed 16 points and eight rebounds, and Brown had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. John Tremblay was the final Panther in double figures as he scored 16 points.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday in their home opener as they host Bard College at 7:00 PM.
