Panther's Squeak By Springfield Tech

The ACPHS Panthers battled Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) men's soccer team to a 3-3 score and won the game with a "golden goal", 1 minute and seventeen seconds into the first overtime period.

The scoring started in the 16th minute, when Alessandro (Ali) Macchiarelli settled a pass from Collin Owczarzak and blasted a 22 yard shot into the STCC net. STCC evened the score with 17 minutes left in the half when Mohammed Kadhim blasted an 18 yard shot that ticked off the underside of the crossbar and ended in the ACPHS goal.  Both teams had numerous opportunities to score again in the half but they went into the half tied at 1 goal each.

STCC started the scoring 15 minutes into the second half when Samuel Sevelo beat the ACPHS defense and slipped the ball into the goal.  ACPHS quickly responded one minute later when Alessandro Macchiarelli sent a cross from the left side of the penalty area across the six to freshman Ryan Mack, who dove and headed the ball into the goal for his first intercollegiate goal. ACPHS scored again seven minutes later when keeper, Adam Hoye-Simek, punted a ball to Alessandro Macchiarelli, who headed it to Zach Hecox who finished on goal.

With seconds remaining in regulation, STCC counterattacked off an ACPHS direct kick and STCC's Alec Ostrowski tied the game sending it into overtime. Just minutes into the first overtime, Zach Hecox beat three STCC defenders and slipped the ball to Alessandro Macchiarelli who found the back of the net to win the game.

The Panthers play their first home game on Wednesday, September 5th, at 5pm against SUNY Delhi.
