Men's Soccer Wins Big at St. Joseph's

Box Score
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Two Gryphon goals in the first eight minutes set the tone early, as Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer triumphed over Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) rival St. Joseph's College Brooklyn by a 4-1 margin at Aviator Sports Complex on Sunday.

With the win, Sarah Lawrence (2-4, 2-1 HVMAC) snapped a three-match losing streak, while St. Joseph's (0-5, 0-2 HVMAC) was denied its first victory.

A St. Joseph foul in the seventh minute warranted a Sarah Lawrence penalty kick, and Gryphon Harper Hunt (Paris, Texas, Paris) converted on the attempt to give Sarah Lawrence a 1-0 lead.

A little more than a minute later, sophomore Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) netted a second goal for the Gryphons; Hunt contributed an assist on the play.

In the 15th minute, Sarah Lawrence tacked on its third goal of the match as Pujari scored again on a pass from junior Aman Banerji (New Delhi, India, The Shri Ram School). The score put the Gryphons in front 3-0 with 75 minutes left to play.

St. Joseph's got on the scoreboard in the 24th minute, when Iqbal Husain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) tallied his first goal of the season to cut the Sarah Lawrence lead to 3-1.

Another foul in the 40th minute put Hunt on the penalty spot again, and the senior netted his second penalty kick attempt to expand the Gryphons' advantage to 4-1.

Both teams had aggressive offensive attempts in the second half, but neither squad managed a score in the period, as time expired to clinch a 4-1 win for the visitors.

Sarah Lawrence sophomores Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i, Parker School) and Julian Bonte-Friedheim (Milan, Italy, International School of Milan) split time in goal for the Gryphons, each tallying two saves. St. Joseph's sophomore Vinny Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) notched six saves in net for the Bears.

Sarah Lawrence returns home to face Berkeley College (N.J.) on Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
