Men's Soccer Routs Webb, 6-1

Box Score
GLEN COVE, N.Y.—Backed by multiple-goal performances by two Gryphons, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer defeated Webb Institute, 6-1, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) showdown on Sunday.

With the win, Sarah Lawrence (3-11, 3-2 HVMAC) clinches fourth-place in the HVMAC standings and a spot in next weekend's league semifinals. Webb (0-8, 0-5 HVMAC) concludes its season winless on the year.

In the 15th minute, first-year Gryphon Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela, ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) stepped up from his usual defensive roles and netted his first goal of the season on an assist by sophomore Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy). Five minutes later, Pujari assisted on the game-winning goal, scored by junior Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif., La Jolla Country Day).

Sarah Lawrence tacked on a third goal in the first half when rookie Clarence Johns (Portland, Ore., Lincoln) netted his first career goal in the 35th minute. Junior Aman Banerji (New Delhi, India, The Shri Ram School) notched his first assist of the season on the score.

After halftime, it took less than three minutes for Sucre to put away his second goal of the match, this time scoring off a free kick by Cuenca.

Webb Institute prevented the shutout with a goal in the 55th minute, but Pujari put away the match with two more goals in the period, the latter assisted by sophomore Kevin Russel (Bethesda, Md., Bethesda Chevy Chase).

Sarah Lawrence plays its final regular-season HVMAC match on the road Wednesday, when the Gryphons head to Berkeley College (N.Y.) at 8 p.m.
