After a 2-1 conference loss to Berkeley on Wednesday night the Lions were eager to get back to business out on the pitch on Sunday evening. Junior Josiah Simons made got King's on the scoreboard 16 minutes into the game when freshman Spencer Smith crossed a ball in from the left side. Simons buried the chance for his 9th goal of the season and a 1-0 King's lead. Just Michel Wenzel came down the right side and served a ball in which Simons again re-directed into the back of net for goal number 10 and a 2-0 King's advantage. But Vaughn was not going to go quietly as they scored two goals in a span of four minutes to draw even at 2-2 with 17 minutes to go in the first half. But King's sophomore Edvin Loefgren would put King's ahead for good in the 35th minute of the first half when he converted a penalty kick after a Vaughn foul in the box. The first half came to a close with King's leading 3-2.
The Lions started a little slow in the second half as Vaughn pressed hard for a tying goal. King's did not register a shot until the 56th minute when Smith finally broke the ice that was saved by the Vaughn keeper. That seemed to get King's offense going again when five minutes later Wenzel earned his second assist of the game when he sent another cross into the Vaughn box to a waiting Loefgren who scored his second goal of the game. Just nine minutes later Loefgren sprung Smith into the box who then beat the keeper with a drive to the far post. Smith's team-leading 11th goal of the season gave King's a 5-2 lead with twenty minutes to play.
Vaughn cut the margin to 5-3 when they buried a penalty kick chance in the 74th minute, but Loefgren scored his third goal of the game and 9th of the season when Smith sent him in alone on goal. King's closed out the game with a 6-3 win. The Lions outshot the Warriors 24-11 and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The victory improved King's overall record to 7-2 and 2-2 in the HVIAC.
