BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Despite the 11 points and 11 rebounds of Gryphon
Campbell Jackson (Washington, D.C., The Field School), Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was defeated by Vaughn College, 66-36, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Monday.
Jackson scored his first bucket on the game's opening possession, and Sarah Lawrence (4-10, 0-3 HVMAC) held the lead for more than half of the opening period. Jackson's layup with 11 minutes to play gave the Green and White its largest lead at 8-4 before the visiting Warriors went on a 7-0 run.
The Gryphons tied the game at 13-13 thanks to a three-point play by rookie
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela, ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)), but Vaughn tacked on 21 points in the final five minutes of the half to carry a 34-17 margin into the intermission.
The second half proved equally fateful for Sarah Lawrence, as Vaughn (7-8, 4-2 HVMAC) outscored the Gryphons by a 32-19 margin.
Jackson's efforts marked his first career double-double as he accounted for more than a quarter of the squad's scoring and rebounds.
Malcolm Knowles (Houston, Texas, School of the Woods) and
Francis Oppong (Brooklyn, N.Y., Erasmus) tallied eight points apiece, while Sucre added five points and
John Collector (Santa Barbara, Calif., Dos Pueblos) rounded out the Sarah Lawrence scoring with four.
For Vaughn, sophomore
Moises Chaucer (Bronx, N.Y., A. Philip Randolph) scored a game-high 19 points and notched a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds. Junior
Jared Ndiba (Roxbury, N.J., Roxbury) reached double-figures with 16 points, while senior
Jihad Ceasar (Hempstead, N.Y., Hempstead) contributed 14 points.
Sarah Lawrence will use the week to regain its footing and prepare for its next game at home against HVMAC opponent Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday, January 27 at 3 p.m. Head coach
