Albany, N.Y. – Senior striker
Zach Hecox needed less than 31 minutes of scoreboard time to rack up a hat trick to lead the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences men's soccer team to a 7-0 non-conference win over visiting SUNY Cobleskill at the ACPHS Soccer Field Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers, who scored six times in the first half, improved to 5-3 on the season with their third consecutive shutout victory.
ACPHS struck early and often against the Fighting Tigers (0-6), starting with a Hecox goal in the sixth minute. Nine minutes later, Hecox assisted on defender
Robert Falcone's first career goal, sending a corner kick into the six-yard box where Falcone headed it home.
Hecox would find the net twice more himself thereafter, finishing a
Matt Simpson pass into the upper left corner from long distance in the 19
th minute and burying one lower left off a
Spencer Keable pass in the 31
st minute. Keable would assist on freshman
Ebenezer Eshun's goal just four and a half minutes later to make the score 5-0.
Falcone knocked an Ali Macchiarelli corner kick home in the 38
th minute for his second goal of the contest to give the Panthers a 6-0 halftime lead; the home side largely played possession soccer the rest of the way with Macchiarelli providing the finishing touch with an 87
th minute tally, his fourth of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Adam Hoye-Simek made two saves in the shutout. The Panthers outshot the Fighting Tigers by a 28-10 margin. ACPHS will be back in action Saturday, hosting St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at 3:00 pm in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action; the match will be the second half of a women's/men's doubleheader featuring the same two schools. That match will begin at 1:00 pm.
