YONKERS, N.Y.—Despite an early goal, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was unable to match Purchase College in what became a 5-1 loss for the Gryphons in non-conference action at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday. The loss is the third straight for Sarah Lawrence (1-4), while Purchase (3-2-1) regains its winning record.
After giving up a goal in the third minute, Sarah Lawrence sophomore
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) netted a crossing shot in the fifth minute to equalize the score at 1-1.
The Gryphons maintained their composure for much of the half, but Panther Zach Miller (Saratoga, N.Y./Schuylerville) regained the Purchase lead in the 32nd minute.
Leading 2-1 at halftime, Purchase College maintained full control in the second half. Despite some early Gryphon opportunities, Purchase tacked on a trio of second-half goals, including the second of the day from forward Junior Sanguina (White Plains, N.Y./Valhalla).
Relief keeper
Julian Bonte-Friedheim (Milan, Italy, International School of Milan) totaled eight saves in his first appearance at goal this season. Pujari notched a team-leading four shots, while
Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif., La Jolla Country Day) contributed two shots on goal.
Sarah Lawrence has some time off before its next match. The Gryphons return to the pitch on Sept. 30 with a road trip to Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference opponent St. Joseph's College Brooklyn.
