YONKERS, N.Y.—Despite the Gryphons' season-high 17 shots, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer fell to Bard College, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday.
Bard (3-12-2) wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. In the third minute, freshman
Troy Robertson (Harvey, La., Helen Cox) corralled a through ball from
Kurt Schmidlein (Mont Vernon, N.H., High Mowing) and netted the Raptors' first goal of the match.
Bard added two more scores in the stanza, including a second goal by Robertson.
Sarah Lawrence (2-10) managed eight shots in the first period with three on goal, but Bard keeper
Dan Gagne (East Longmeadow, Mass., East Longmeadow) stopped each threat.
Trailing 3-0, the Gryphons regained momentum in the second half, outshooting Bard by a 9-3 margin. In the 71st minute, sophomore
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) scored his team-high ninth goal of the season, capitalizing on a cross by junior
Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif., La Jolla Country Day).
The next ten minutes of action saw Sarah Lawrence tally four shots, but none found the back of the net. Robertson completed his hat trick in the 81st minute, when he collected a crossing pass and clinched Bard's 4-1 win.
Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela, ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) played a complete game in his second career start; he notched six saves on the day.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action for two road games this weekend. The Gryphons travel to face Brooklyn College on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) rival Webb Institute on Sunday at 1 p.m.
