CASTLETON, VT- ACPHS-XC opened its 2013 season Saturday with the Castleton Invitational at Castleton State College in Vermont.

The women's team finished 3rd overall spearheaded by Freshman Jessica Monzyk's 1st place finish with a time of 21:08 on the 5k course. Freshman Julia Lindsay finished 6th overall with a time of 22:20 on the 5k course. Michelle Staiger, Cassandra Izzo, and Krista Rainville rounded out the top 5 for the Lady Panthers.

The men's team also finished 3rd overall led by Freshman Matthew Kaczmarek's 6th place finish with a time of 28:47 on the 8k course. Freshman Matthew Crough finished 8th overall with a time of 29:13 on the 8k course. Christopher Hunter, A.J. Johnson, and Gavin O'Brien rounded out the top 5 for the Men's Panthers.
 
"It was a very strong opening race for both the men and the women. It's very exciting to have top 10 finishers in both races, and to see some new personal best times. I look forward to seeing the times drop as the athletes get into the swing of the season" Said Assistant Coach Joanna Johnson.
 
"I am very proud of the men's and women's squads performances today. The team has been working hard all summer and in the first weeks practice and, it's nice to see the fruits of all their hard work." Said Head Coach Thomas Hartnett.  
 
The Panther's Harriers will next be in action Saturday September 14th at the Three Stallion Invitational at Vermont Tech in Randolph Center, Vermont.
