Williamstown, MA- The Lady Panthers took the field today at the Purple Valley Classic (hosted by Williams College) against some of the best teams the NCAA Division 3 Northeast Region has to offer this season.  The Lady Panthers finished 13th/13 teams on the 6k course at Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Freshman Jessica Monzyk led the way for the Lady Panthers with 51st place finish overall and a new school record time of 24:21 on the 6k course.  The previous 6k women's record holder was the current Volunteer Assistant Coach, Alex Oaks at the 2012 USCAA Championships with a time of 26:21. Junior Michelle Staiger finished 146th overall with a time of 27:55 on the 6k course. The women's top five was rounded out by Senior Cassandra Izzo (29:48), Senior Krista Rainville (30:47), and Freshman Amanda Boyle (31:20).
"This meet was a challenge for our teams but helped to prepare us for nationals in November. Our team ran well today against very tough competition. We will use these next few weeks to prepare the runners for the HVIAC championships." Said Volunteer Assistant Coach Alex Oaks.
"It takes a lot of guts to run well on a challenging course amongst such a strong field of runners. I am very proud of the toughness our runners demonstrated today. They will be well prepared and motivated as we head into our championship races" Said Assistant Coach Joanna Johnson.
"Today's meet was tough both mentally and physically for both teams. I told them going into this meet that we would be up against it with such a strong field in attendance and with three of our top five runners missing from our line-up (two men & one woman). Our ability to attend a meet such as this shows how far the program has come since last season. I look forward to coming back here in the future and building upon our first performance at the purple valley classic today." Said Head Coach Thomas Hartnett Jr.

The Lady Panthers will next be in action Sunday October 20th, 2013 at the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Confernce Championships at Bard College.
