The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team's quest for a USCAA Division II National title took a huge hit on Saturday evening, as the No. 2 seeded Knights dropped a 1-0 decision to third-seeded Penn State Brandywine by a score of 1-0. The contest took place at the Princess Anne Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, VA. With the loss, Berkeley dipped to 12-6-1 on the 2018 campaign, while the Nittany Lions improved to 16-2-2.

Today's output means Berkeley is now at the mercy of tomorrow's result of a game between NHTI and Penn State Brandywine. In a straight-forward scenario for the Knights, if the Lynx defeat the Nittany Lions, then Berkeley will play Johnson & Wales-Charlotte in Monday's National title game. If Penn State Brandywine defeats NHTI, it'll be the Nittany Lions advancing to the championship contest, eliminating Berkeley in the process.

The difference in today's match was the goal scored by All-American Brandon Crochunis, as he headed-in lone goal of the contest with 10:19 remaining.

Berkeley and Penn State Brandywine were scoreless for just a shade under 80 minutes before Crochunis' header found the back of the net. The Nittany Lions' Stevie DiSipio picked up an assist on the play, as his long throw-in sailed all the way to the far corner of the goal.  

The Knights did have a golden opportunity to tie the match with three minutes to play, but Amadou Sy's shot in the front of the net hooked wide left, keeping Berkeley's deficit at a goal.

Berkeley College out-shot Penn State Brandywine 18-11 for the match. Both goaltenders – the Knights' Dario Cruz Sepulveda and the Nittany Lions' Brandon Welden – made three saves apiece. For Welden, it was his sixth shutout of the season.
