BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Despite double-digit scoring from Gryphon forward
Francis Oppong (Brooklyn, N.Y., Erasmus), Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball fell to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), 91-37, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Sunday.
ACPHS (11-3, 4-0 HVMAC) broke open a 9-0 lead in the opening minutes, but Sarah Lawrence (4-11, 0-4 HVMAC) recovered to cut the gap to five points at 14-9. From there, the Panthers went on a 15-2 outburst and built a 48-21 lead by halftime.
After the intermission, the visitors remained firmly in control, posting a 43-16 scoring advantage in the second stanza en route to the victory to preserve their perfect conference ledger.
Oppong led Sarah Lawrence with 12 points and eight rebounds on the day, scoring half a dozen points in each period. Junior
Greg Smith (Tampa, Fla., Gaither) matched with eight boards despite seeing limited action. Sophomore
Malcolm Knowles (Houston, Texas, School of the Woods) put up seven points, while senior
John Collector (Santa Barbara, Calif., Dos Pueblos) notched five rebounds and six points, including the Gryphons' only trey of the day.
For the Panthers, hot-handed sophomore
Michael Beyer (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored a game-high 17 points, including 6-for-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Emmanuel Okafor (Lagos, Nigeria) anchored the defense as the 6-8 junior swatted four blocks on the day.
Sarah Lawrence returns to its home court on Wednesday, January 30, in a showdown against HVMAC opponent St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. Tip off at Campbell Sports Center is slated for 7 p.m.
