BOX SCORE
The ACPHS men's soccer team opened the new ACPHS Athletic Field in dramatic fashion on Wednesday as the Panthers defeated SUNY-Delhi by a score of 2-1 in overtime.
Zach Hecox scored the game-winner just over a minute into overtime as ACPHS improved to 2-1 on the season.
Before the game, ACPHS administrators, coaches, student-athletes and local dignitaries joined in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new field.
"It was a great day for the ACPHS Department of Athletics and Recreation and our student-athletes," said Ryan Venter, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "The exciting victory by our men's soccer team was icing on the cake as we unveiled the new field to the ACPHS community."
The Panthers got on the board early as
Alessandro Macchiarelli scored his third goal of the season just over two minutes into the game to give ACPHS an early lead. The Broncos had a number of good chances throughout the half, but as he has done throughout his career as a Panther,
Adam Hoye-Simek proved tough to beat as he held Delhi at bay and ACPHS took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Tom Knowles was able to even the score for Delhi early in the second half, and the game was deadlocked as the game went into overtime where Hecox scored to give ACPHS their second overtime victory of the young season.
