Women's Soccer Falls to Brooklyn in Program Debut

Box Score

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In the team's first-ever game as a varsity program, Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer fell to Brooklyn College, 7-0, in a non-conference contest at Brooklyn College Field on Tuesday.

Brooklyn (1-0) put the pressure on early, logging five shots in the first 10 minutes. Bulldog Shani Abrahams tallied the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Four minutes later, Abrahams assisted BC's second goal, netted by Jordan Kerwin. Abrahams rounded out the first-half scoring with a goal in the 28th minute.

The second-half saw Brooklyn's Sayla Flores get on the scoresheet with a pair of goals (58', 63'), while Kerwin scored her second, and Bergelie Louis rounded out the effort with a final goal in the 69th minute.

For Sarah Lawrence (0-1), the Gryphon offense was stymied in the attacking end. SLC was dismissed without notching a shot in the game. Between the pipes, rookie keeper Addie Rosenberg (New York, N.Y./Fusion Academy) stopped 13 shots in the effort.

For Head Coach Unity Beddingfield, the birth of a team was a momentous occasion. "[Our first game] was an exciting moment that everybody was looking forward to. We have a great group of women and an entire season to look forward to. We had a good effort tonight and some great teamwork; I'm excited to see where the program goes."

Beddingfield continued, "We had a lot of great saves from Addie [Rosenberg]. A number of players stepped up and competed aggressively. Overall, I'm extremely proud of them."

Sarah Lawrence returns to Westchester County for its home opener on Thursday. The Gryphons host York (N.Y.) College on Thursday at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
