In front of a packed house of almost 230 spectators at the Campbell Sports Center, the Gryphons reigned supreme over Webb Institute tonight, 67-61. The Homecoming game was marked by an alumni reception, crowd giveaways, a student-band performance and a cookout before the game. Proceeds from a raffle and concession stands went to the Students for Students Scholarship Fund, emphasizing the community spirit that was felt throughout the day.

Webb and Sarah Lawrence played a close game throughout the first half, but the Gryphons were able to pull ahead by a solid lead throughout the second half and hold it through to the end. With crowd support reverberating through the stands, junior Jason Julien (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) netted 24 points from the floor and senior team captains Nick Streltzov (Sacramento, Calif./C.K. McClatchy) and Kyle Kouri (Weston, Conn./WHS Brentwood) both put away 12 a piece.

Along with its peculiar date, 11/11/11, homecoming turned out to be not only a celebration for students and the returning alums who met at an opening reception prior to the game, but was also a commemoration of all who served in the armed forces on this Veteran's Day. The Star-Spangled Banner, played by student band Friendly Strangers, was dedicated to those men and women who have served and are currently serving.

With their 2-1 record, the Gryphons go on to face Vaugn College at home this Thursday night, November 17, at 7pm. Go Gryphons! Go Green!
