Men's Basketball Earns Thrilling Win Over Sage

BOX SCORE

The 2012-13 ACPHS men's basketball team has provided a season's worth of exciting games in just the first few weeks of the season as the Panthers earned another thrilling victory with a 67-64 road win over Sage College on Thursday night. In what was billed as "The Battle of New Scotland Avenue," Casey Redfern made two clutch free throws in the game's final seconds to seal the game for ACPHS. The Panthers, who improved to 7-1 on the season, have now won six straight games for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

The first half was back and forth as both teams were unable to earn much of an advantage as the Gators took a 35-32 lead into the break. Sage was able to hold the lead for most of the second half, until two free throws by John Tremblay gave the Panthers a 54-53 lead with five minutes to play in the game. After Sage took the lead back, Redfern hit the biggest basket of the night, hitting his fifth three-point basket of the night to give ACPHS a 59-57 lead which they would not relinquish.

With the Panthers holding a 65-61 lead, Sage connected on a three-point basket with eight seconds to play to pull to within one point, but Redfern hit two free throws to extend the lead and the Gators were unable to get off a potential game-tying three point basket.

Redfern led all scorers with 24 points while Steven Brown added 17 points and nine rebounds. Tremblay was the third Panther in double-figures, scoring 12 points.

ACPHS, currently ranked sixth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association poll, is now off until January 5th when the Panthers travel to New Hampshire Tech for a tournament with huge USCAA implications.
