POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 20, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's basketball team rode two 20-plus point runs in the first half to a 104-34 victory over the Culinary Institute of America on Sunday night at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
The Brewers (2-1) next travel across the river to face rival SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, November 30, at 7:00 p.m. The Steels host The King's College on Saturday, December 3, at 1:00 p.m.
Vassar broke free from a 6-6 tie with a 24-3 run spread over ten minutes to go ahead 30-9 with 6:43 remaining in the first half. Junior
Jon Herzog capped the run with three consecutive 3-pointers.
The CIA's Payne Harding knocked down a triple to bring the score to 32-14 but the Brewers shut down the Steels for the final six minutes of the half with 20-0 run for a 52-14 halftime lead.
Vassar placed 14 of 15 players in the scoring column. Four Brewers reached double figures in scoring, led by freshman
Luka Ladan with a career-high 16 points. Sophomore
Lucas Wager pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and added 12 points. Classmate
Sam Rappaport tallied 13 points and
Ricky Winkeller had 10 points.
It was the first time in over seven seasons that Vassar cracked the century mark in scoring.
Harding led the Steels with 15 points. Sammy Sleman grabbed nine boards.
