NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In an historic vote, the Board of Directors of The College of New Rochelle reached a decision that will allow CNR's School of Arts and Sciences to become a fully coed institution beginning next fall. A major component of the announcement included the addition of Men's Athletics.

Starting in 2016, the Blue Angels will roll out Men's teams in the following sports: Men's Basketball, Men's Swimming, Men's Soccer (club) and Men's Volleyball (club). Men's Soccer and Men's Volleyball will become varsity in 2017.

Additional sports teams will be added in upcoming years with the goal of being fully NCAA compliant for sports sponsorship.

"With the introduction of male athletics at CNR, we will build on our success in women's athletics over the last several years, which has included three consecutive HVIAC volleyball championships titles," said Jay Butler, Director of Athletics at The College of New Rochelle. "This fall, we will field varsity teams in men's basketball and swimming and introduce volleyball and soccer at the club level with plans to raise them to varsity level the following fall."

Men's Basketball and Men's Swimming will begin NCAA varsity competition during the 2016-17 season. Head coaches for both sports will be announced this week. Men's Soccer and Men's Volleyball will have competitive club teams for next season, and will join the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference the following year – as full varsity programs.

Men's Basketball, Volleyball, and Swimming teams will all compete – along with our women's teams – in CNR's Athletic and Wellness Center. The Athletic and Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art facility which houses a 500-seat fieldhouse; a 6-lane, NCAA regulation swimming pool; fitness center, locker room facilities; athletic training room; and class rooms. The Blue Angels are currently members of the NCAA, the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Association of Division 3 Independents, and the ECAC, as well as an affiliate member of the USCAA.

Student-athletes in high school or junior college who have an interest in joining the Blue Angels can contact the Athletics Dept.
