2009-10 Regular Season & Tournament Champions

St. Joseph’s College

St. Joseph’s College captures their second HVMAC Championship after entering as the regular season champion for the fifth straight year.

The Bears maintained a perfect 6-0 record in conference play with an average margin of victory of 19.3 points.

In the championship, Vaughn held an early lead, but St. Joseph’s utilized a 15-4 run to gain the lead for good, carrying a 37-27 lead at halftime.

The Bears led by as many as 17 with seven minutes remaining and Vaughn went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits, but St. Joseph’s went a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line in the final minutes to hold off the Warriors.

2010 Tournament MVP

Justin Gist •  St. Joseph’s College
Junior •  Guard  •  Newsome, FL (Newsome)

Justin Gist was named 2010 HVMAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the tournament in scoring (27.0 ppg) and steals (4.0 spg).  The junior guard shot 47 percent from the field (20-for-43) and averaged 6.5 rebounds per game.

2009-10 Coach of the Year

Joseph Cocozello •  St. Joseph’s College

Joseph Cocozello has been selected by his peers as 2009-10 HVMAC Basketball Coach of the Year, having won the honor two years ago.  Cocozello led the Bears to a perfect season, going undefeated in conference play and delivering their second conference title in program history.
