Men's Basketball: New Rochelle 105, Culinary 64

BRONX, NY-The College of New Rochelle's men's basketball team opened their slate of conference games on Sunday by traveling to the Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx and defeating the Culinary Institute of America Steels with a score of 105 to 64.
 
Collectively the Blue Angles played exceptionally. A day after breaking the school record for points in a half with 65 versus The New School, the Blue Angels registered 63 points in the first half to win their second consecutive game.
 
 Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, NY) continued his hot shooting by scoring a game high 26 points on a blistering 11 for 15 from the field. 19 of Schenkel's points came in the first half as part of another fast start.The sophomore also pulled down a game high 11 rebounds, three assists and sneaking three steals.
 
The CNR freshmen were not hesitant to join in the scoring. Freshman Justin Rivera (New York, NY) joined Schenkel in putting the Steels away early in the first half; scoring 15 of his 17 points in the first half. Rivera also grabbed five rebounds and three assists. Followed by freshman forward Elijah Robinson (New York) who scored 14 points, collected seven rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Jaylin Gray (Brooklyn, NY) joined his first year classmates in defeating The Culinary Institute by contributing across the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists.
 
The Blue Angels set a school record in assists with 25 (23 assists versus The New School, 12/3/16) while tying a team record with 20 steals in a game (20 steals versus The Culinary Institute, 12/11/16). The team shot 52.9% from the field in the contest which is the second highest percentage in the team's history.
 
The College of New Rochelle will return to action this Thursday as they travel downtown to face New York University.
