Men's Soccer: Five Towns 11, Culinary 1

Dix Hills, NY - The Five Towns College men's soccer team improved to 4-2-1 on the season with an 11-1 win over Culinary Institute in Sunday afternoon's match. The team now has a 1-2-1 conference record and is ranked 4th in the HVIAC. With 48 goals scored through seven games, Five Towns is currently the leading goal scorer in the USCAA and has the lowest goals-against average of 0.72.

The top four teams in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will travel up to Albany for the conference championship on October 26-27. The Sound still has two more conference games on the schedule. The team will travel to Vaughn (1-1 HVIAC) on October 17th and will play Berkeley (2-0 HVIAC) at home on October 23rd. Five Towns held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Sound had 23 shots on goal through the game, while the defensive line controlled by Junior Del Rosario, Sebastian Montenegro, Andy Alfonso, and Toshinori Takahashi, held Culinary to just three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mouhamed Diop Dia had one save in 75 shut out minutes, and Vincent Rodriguez-Vega allowed one goal in 15 minutes in the net.

Freshman William Rivera and Freshman Adrian Wong set a game-high for the season with four goals scored each against the Culinary Steels. Wong opened up the scoring in the 3rd minute off a pass from Luis Mendez. Rivera scored next in the 11th minute; Anthony Molina volleyed a corner kick from Adrian Santos which Rivera knocked past the goalkeeper. In the 13th minute, Robinson Munoz controlled the ball after a failed defensive clear and dribbled around a defender in the box before finishing left-footed to find the back of the net. Wong would score twice more to complete the hat-trick within 44 minutes and give the Sound a 6-0 lead going into halftime.

Toshinori Takahashi scored his first goal of the season two minutes into the second half. Takahashi took a shot from 20 yards out on the right side, and finished upper left over the goalie's head. Robinson Munoz finished the game with two goals and an assist. Anthony Molina finished with two assists, and Bassem Ismail had one.
