Marotta Leads Seven Receiving All-HVIAC Men's Tennis Team Honors

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Berkeley College junior Victor Marotta was named the 2016 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the 2016 All-HVIAC Men’s Tennis Team at the conclusion of the HVIAC Tournament on Sunday evening.

Marotta, a one-time Player of the Week, compiled an unblemished 3-0 mark from the top singles position and was 2-1 in the top doubles position, helping Berkeley to a second place finish. On the season, the junior was 11-1 overall in singles.

Vaughn College sophomore Elias Dimitropoulos and Culinary Institute freshman Cassidy Seo were named the Co-Rookies of the Year. Dimitropoulos went 4-2 overall in conference play posting a 2-0 mark at No. 4 singles and suffering his only singles loss playing at the top spot. Seo was undefeated in against conference foes compiling a 6-0 mark through the tournament and helping the Steels to their first league title.

Seven men were honored by the conference for outstanding play throughout the season and two were repeat honorees.

Webb Institute head coach Pat Doherty was selected at the 2016 Coach of the Year, his fourth time receiving the honor.

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year Awards are selected by the men's tennis coaches in the conference.
