2009 REGULAR SEASON &TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Medgar Evers College Cougars
Medgar Evers College captures the 2009 regular season and
tournament titles flipping the script on last year’s 2-1 loss
to #1 Albany Pharmacy in the title game. Medgar Evers returned this
year as the #1 seed while Albany Pharmacy entered as the #2
seed.
In a replay of last year, the Cougars took an early 1-0 lead only to have Albany Pharmacy equalize the game and have the two go back and forth in a tense battle throughout the second half. But this year it would be the Medgar Evers who would emerge victorious, scoring in the 86th minute to take the title.
2009 TOURNAMENT MVP
Kerissa Harris • Medgar Evers College
• Sophomore • Midfielder • Brooklyn, NY
Kerissa Harris has been selected as this year’s Tournament
MVP playing a role in both Medgar Evers goals, assisting on the
go-ahead goal in the 11th minute and later delivering the
championship-winning goal in the 86th minute, her 14th of the
season. Harris finished the season with 39 points.
2009 COACH OF THE YEAR
Roy Anderson • Medgar Evers College
For the second straight year, Roy Anderson has been selected as Soccer Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers. Anderson took the Cougars from worst to first in a span of two seasons, capturing the regular season title with an unblemished record in conference, and then avenging last year’s loss in the title game to Albany Pharmacy as the two met again in a tightly contested battle in this year’s championship.
