FLUSHING, N.Y. – In a dominant performance producing the eight of the nine flight champions, regular season champions Pratt Institute captured their second straight tournament title at the 2012 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Tennis Championships held at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Cannoneers improved upon their three-point victory over Sarah Lawrence College at last year's championship collecting 26 of the maxiumum 27 points for an 11-point victory, the Gryphons earning tournament runner-up honors once again.
After falling in a tiebreak in last year's No. 5 singles title match, sophomore Sophie Frost rebounded this season as the team's leader and dropped only three games in the tournament en route to the overall individual singles title defeating the College of New Rochelle's Deanna Tozzo, a three-time Rookie of the Week, 8-2 in the championship.
Sarah Conant and Alexa Trembly paired up to take home the No. 1 doubles title for Pratt, also collecting individual titles at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
The duo of Lane Garber and Sarah Fiordaliso from Sarah Lawrence secured the No. 3 doubles title, the only flight not captured by the Cannoneers.
Rounding out the team scoring was the College of New Rochelle in third place, followed by St. Joseph's College and Vaughn College.
Vaughn College head coach Laszlo Jurak was selected by his peers as 2012 Coach of the Year.
