Pratt Sweeps Vaughn To Capture Sixth Women's Tennis Title

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Top-seeded Pratt Institute completed their second straight unblemished league season winning the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis championship with a 5-0 victory over No. 2 Vaughn College on Sunday evening at the Pratt Activities and Resource Center.

For Pratt, it was their sixth league title in the last seven years. The Cannoneers surrendered just one point against league competition all season, defeating No. 4 seed Berkeley, 8-1, in the semifinals.

Second-seeded Vaughn had their best finish in the league standings in their history and took home runner-up honors for the first time bypassing No. 3 seed College of New Rochelle, 5-2, in the other semifinal.

In the title match, the Cannoneers swept all three doubles flights with the tandems of Amanda Twu/Melanie Kania and Morgan Ferweda/Huize Wu victorious at love, 8-0. After the No. 3 singles match was defaulted at the start of singles play in favor of Pratt, Twu delivered the title-clinching point with an 8-1 triumph in the top singles match, with the Cannoneers holding commanding leads in the remaining four matches.
