MILTON, N.Y. – Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences senior Jessica Monzyk finished the most dominant careers in conference history, winning her fourth straight individual championship as the Panthers took the top three positions to win the 2016 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
The Panthers win their second title in three years and third in school history. Monzyk bested the field of 57 runners covering the 5K course in 21:34 to become the first four-time winner of the Championship and was later named Runner of the Year for the third time. Closely following Monzyk were junior Julia Lindsay (21:38) in second and sophomore Catherine Phelps (21:39) in third.
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry then sent five of the next six runners across the line, led by sophomore Marissa Lathrop (21:56) in fourth and Rookie of the Year Eden Zickler (22:53) in sixth, to complete their scoring five. But ACPHS junior Maura Falli (23:45) and Abigail Bleier (23:50) crossed in 10th and 11th to close out their scoring five, giving the Panthers a four-point victory over the Mighty Oaks, last year's champions.
Pratt Institute edged out the Culinary Institute of America by three points for third place and Berkeley College rounded out the scoring teams in fifth.
