MILTON, N.Y. – SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry junior Marissa Lathrop led seven Mighty Oaks in the top 10 to win the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
Lathrop bested a field of 51 with a 5-kilometer time of 21:33, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Culinary Institute of America sophomore Alyssa Byndas (21:45) to earn her first individual title, after taking second in 2015 and fourth in 2016. Albany College of Pharmacy senior Julia Lindsay (21:52) crossed seven seconds behind Byndas for third place to lead the Panthers to runner-up honors in the team competition. Lindsay has never finished worse than third overall in four HVIAC championship runs.
ESF rookies Erin Cocca (22:15), Emily Booth (22:32), and Alexi Desiseroth (22:43) finished in fourth through sixth and sophomore Eden Zickler (22:58) crossed in eighth to clinch the second title in three years for the Mighty Oaks (24 points). SUNY ESF had nine harriers finish in the top 15 to earn medalist honors.
Following Albany Pharmacy (49 points) in second place was Pratt Institute (79 points), The Culinary Institute of America (86 points) and The College of New Rochelle (149 points).
