HVIAC Players of the Week - October 9

Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Amy Young, Pratt

Freshman • Vancouver, Canada

Young swept the day versus New Rochelle, winning at No. 3 singles (10-0) and No. 2 doubles (8-0).

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Isabel Campbell, Pratt

Junior • Waxhaw, N.C.

Campbell didn't drop a single set against New Rochelle winning her No. 6 singles match 10-0 and her No. 3 doubles match 8-0.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Jeremy Jimenez, Berkeley

Freshman • Bronx, N.Y.

The Bronx native led Berkeley to a 13th place finish out of 31 teams at the Highlander XC Challenge with a 27:12 8K time, good for 17th out 190 runners.

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Jared Gorgolione, Berkeley

Freshman • Hopatong, N.J.

Gorgolione finished 41st out of 190 runners at the Highlander XC Challenge with an 8K time of 28:28.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Marissa Lathrop, SUNY ESF

Senior • Baldwinsville, N.Y.

Lathrop won her first ever individual title with a first-place finish (24:30) at the Houghton Highlander Invite (108 runners). Her first-place finish was the first first-ever individual title in ESF women's cross country history.

Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

NeKendra Liddie, New Rochelle

Junior • Middle Blocker • Gardena, Calif.

Liddie contributed at least 12 points in both of the Blue Angels' victories, highlighted by 10 kills and four total blocks over Baruch.

Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Sierra Plum, New Rochelle

Freshman • Setter • Goldendale, Wash.

Plum dished out 23 assists and brought up eight digs in a win over Baruch and added 12 assists and six digs in a sweep of Brooklyn.

Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Alyssa Hughes, SUNY ESF

Junior • Midfielder • Burnt Hills, N.Y.

Hughes scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in overtime to defeat #1 ranked SUNY Delhi, 1-0.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Denis Moshchenko, Vaughn

Senior • Forward • Brooklyn, N.Y.

Moshchenko had his second hat-trick in three games in a 10-3 win over conference opponent Pratt Institute. This is his second Player of the Week honor of 2018.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Amadou Sy, Berkeley

Freshman • Dakar, Senegal

Sy scored a goal in the Knights' 4-3 overtime victory over New Rochelle, while also scoring Berkeley's lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Clarks Summit University earning his second-straight Rookie of the Week award.

Honor Roll

Ethan Applegren, SUNY ESF • Men's Cross Country

The senior led the Mighty Oaks to a 4th place finish out of 11 scoring teams at Houghton. This was his first time he was the top ESF finisher across the finish line (28:12).

Emely Castillo, Vaughn • Women's Tennis

The sophomore took home a 10-6 victory at fourth singles and an 8-1 victory at third doubles against New Rochelle.

Zachary Fall, Vaughn • Men's Cross Country

The freshman ran a 31:29 at the Highlander XC Challenge, finishing 28th out of 190 runners.

Marcelo Furchi, New Rochelle • Men's Soccer

The freshman recorded two goals in the Blue Angels' 4-3 conference loss to Berkeley.

Kevin Moreira, Vaughn • Men's Soccer

The freshman scored his first hat-trick of the season in a 10-3 win over conference opponent Pratt Institute. Moreira also assisted on one goal in the Warriors' triumph. 

Omario Rosen, Berkeley • Men's Soccer

The sophomore scored the game-winning goal in the Knights' thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over the College of New Rochelle in a battle of the two top teams (record-wise) in the conference. 

Angela Wright, Vaughn • Women's Tennis

The sophomore won 10-7 at No. 5 singles and 8-1 at No. 3 doubles in a 6-3 overall triumph over New Rochelle.
