HVIAC Players of the Week - October 16

Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Spencer Smith, King's

Freshman • Striker • Eugene, Oregon

Smith's hat-trick versus CNR and two goals versus Albany Pharmacy saw King's move up to second place in the conference.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Ryuji Sugiyama, Berkeley

Freshman • Mount Rainier, Wash.

Sugiyama had a huge week for Berkeley College, scoring a goal and notching two assists in the Knights' 9-1 win over Pratt, while also netting two goals and recording an assist in the Knights' 5-2 win over Albany. 

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Julio Sanchez, Berkeley

Freshman • Woodland Park, N.J.

Sanchez completed the Caldwell Cougar Chase in 32:13 which was good for fifth place as Berkeley finished second.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Shi'eym Lennon, Berkeley

Freshman • Paterson, N.J.

Lennon earned a second-place finish at the Caldwell Cougar Chase leading Berkeley with a time of 31:08.

Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Erin Tersegno, Albany Pharmacy

Senior • Forward • Webster, N.Y.

Tersegno had six goals on the week including both goals in the Panthers' win over Bryant and Stratton and four goals and two assists against King's to clinch the regular season HVIAC title

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Sadie Lozier, Albany Pharmacy

Freshman • Barre, Vt.

Lozier anchored the midfield in a tough game versus Bryant and Stratton and helped the team to a shutout against King's. 

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Emely Castillo, Vaughn

Sophomore • Bronx, N.Y.

Castillo won fourth singles matches over New Rochelle (8-2) and Berkeley (10-1) while winning both of her doubles matches against each school 8-1.

Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

Simaima Fukofuka, New Rochelle

Junior • Middle Blocker • Garden Grove, Calif.

The Garden Grove, California native accrued 21 kills at a very efficient .633 hitting percentage in three wins for the Blue Angels.

Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Renae Maganza, King's

Freshman • Setter • Katy, Texas

Maganza had a 16-assist, 10-dig double-double in a loss to New Rochelle and 23 assists in a victory over Culinary.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Lauren Pannell, King's

Freshman • Corsicana, Texas

 

The freshman took more than 90 seconds off her personal best 5K time from the previous meet to place 94th (24:26) in a field which included D1 and D2 athletes at SJC Long Island.

 

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Delilah Glasper, Berkeley

Sophomore • Brooklyn, N.Y.

Glasper traversed the 5K course at the Caldwell Cougar Chase in 24:44, good for an overall finish of 37th.

Honor Roll

Luke Day, ESF • Men's Soccer

Junior forward Luke Day scored a hat-trick versus HVIAC rivals Culinary Institute. ESF won 5-0.

Alejandra Figueroa, New Rochelle • Women's Volleyball

The freshman totaled 12 kills and 11 aces in a 3-0 week for New Rochelle.

Samantha Klozik, King's • Women's Volleyball

The freshman had 20 kills, three aces, and nine digs in a loss to New Rochelle and a win against Culinary to split an HVIAC tri-match

Denis Moshchenko, Vaughn • Men's Soccer

Moshchenko had his third hat-trick of the season in a 7-3 victory over New School. Moshchenko had one assist in an important win over Culinary Institute and the Warriors third victory in a row.

Amadou Sy, Berkeley • Men's Soccer

Sy scored two goals in the Knights' 9-1 victory over Pratt Institute, while also netting one goal in Berkeley's 5-2 win at Albany.

Craig Wishart, King's • Men's Soccer

Two PK saves versus CNR followed up with a clean sheet versus Albany Pharmacy saw King's soccer move up to 2nd in the conference.
