Tiebreaker Rules

 

For a final position in a conference tournament, a play-in game will be held one day prior to scheduled start of the tournament. Otherwise for seeding, the following criteria will be applied in cases of ties.

 

SOCCER

  1. Head-to-Head
  2. Record versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  3. Goal differential in conference games capped at four goals.
  4. Goal differential versus top-seeded teams in descending order capped at four goals.
  5. Coin Flip

TENNIS

  1. Head-to-Head Record
  2. Record versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  3. Match score differential versus tied teams
  4. Match score differential versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  5. Coin Flip

VOLLEYBALL

  1. Head-to-Head Record
  2. Record versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  3. Set differential in conference games between tied teams
  4. Point differential in conference games versus tied teams
  5. Set differential versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  6. Point differential versus top-seeded teams in descending order
  7. Coin Flip

BASKETBALL

  1. Head-to-Head Record
  2. Record versus top-seeded teams in descending order.
  3. Coin Flip (Round Robin if necessary)

 

  • If two or more separate ties exist, the tie between the higher-seeded teams are resolved first.
  • If more than two teams are tied, then once the first tiebreaker is resolved, the process starts over.
