Women's Swimming Wraps Regular Season at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—In the team's final regular-season meet, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming placed sixth at the 2014 Skidmore College Women's Sprint Invitational at the Williamson Sports Center on Saturday.

SUNY New Paltz (580 points) won the event, followed by Vassar College (384) and William Smith College (314). Skidmore (200), SUNY Cobleskill (79) and SLC (32) rounded out the field.

Rookie Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) highlighted the Gryphons' performance on the day. She posted the team's best finish with a fifth-place showing in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.42), just 0.07 second behind her own SLC record.

Harley also scored points in the 400 yard individual medley. She earned 10th place in the event with a swim of 5:28.84, a mere 3.5 seconds off SLC record pace.

The 100 yard backstroke saw a pair of Gryphons score among the top swimmers. Rookie Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) touched the wall in 1:12.77 for 10th place, while Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) completed the event in 1:13.83 to take 11th place.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Risica, Harley, Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) teamed to capture eighth place in 1:54.38.

Amberchan, Alayna Bone (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), Dzana Ashworth (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) and Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i/Kealakehe) also picked up points with an 11th-place swim in the 200 yard medley relay (2:16.63).

Sarah Lawrence concludes the 2013-14 campaign at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, Feb. 19-22, hosted by Ithaca College.
