The ACPHS men's soccer team defeated Webb Institute by a score of 8-0 on Saturday as the Panthers clinched the top seed in the upcoming Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference tournament.
Zach Hecox scored a hat trick and
Chris Mathews added two goals as ACPHS finished the regular season with a 7-4-2 record, including a 5-0-1 record in the HVMAC.
The scoring started in the 18th minute when
Andrew Bartz dropped a pass back to
Matt Simpson who found Hecox on the left side of the penalty area, and Hecox blasted the shot into the back of the net. Six minute later, Wil Tarantino scored off a corner kick from
Collin Owczarzak. The game went into halftime as the Panthers held a 2-0 advantage.
With 17 minutes gone in the second half, ACPHS started to increase the pressure and scored a flurry of goals as Hecox scored two more goals, followed quickly by a goal from
Robert Falcone. In the 22nd minute of the second half, Mathews scored his first goal of the season. With four minutes remaining, Bartz scored from almost 25 yards out and Mathews completed the scoring with his second goal of the game in the final minute of the game.
Adam Hoye-Simek made four saves in net for ACPHS to record his third shutout of the season.
The Panthers host Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the HVMAC semifinals.
