Men's Volleyball Clinches Fourth-Straight HVMAC Regular-Season Crown, Topples Webb Institute, 3-0

NEW YORK - Senior outside hitter and team co-captain Elchanan Margolis (Toronto, Ont.) hit .381 with match-highs of 10 kills and 13 digs Wednesday night at the Max Stern Athletic Center, as the Yeshiva University men's volleyball team won its fifth-consecutive match and clinched its fourth-straight Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-9, 25-14) over visiting Webb Institute.

The Maccabees (9-16, 5-0 HVMAC) will serve as the No. 1 seed for the four-team HVMAC Championships, which will be held at Yeshiva on April 11 (6 p.m. semifinals, 8 p.m. title match).

YU hit .308 on the night, and served up 12 aces against the Webbies (0-4, 0-3). In addition to Margolis's exploits, fellow senior and co-captain, outside hitter Jared Rechnitz (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit .600 (7-1-10) while adding two service aces and seven digs. Junior setter Adam Rhodes (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 13 assists and a match-high six aces, while junior middle blocker Menachem Goldstein (Chicago, Ill.) had an identical 7-1-10 hitting line to Rechnitz. Junior Daniel Lapson (Skokie, Ill.) scored 9.5 points off six kills, three aces and one assisted block.

Head coach Arnold Ross's Macs wrap up HVMAC regular-season and pre-Passover break play Thursday night (Mar. 21), when it travels to Brooklyn Tech High School for an 8 p.m. first serve at St. Joseph's (Brooklyn).
