Huskies Men’s Soccer Season Ends at HVIAC

POTTERSVILLE, NY - - The Word of Life Huskies hosted the 2023 HVIAC Tournament on Saturday, November 4th, and the Championship Games on Sunday, November 5th. The Huskies earned the number 3 seed and would take on number 2 Berkeley College Knights in a rematch from their earlier meeting in which Berkeley won 6-2. The Knights started off the scoring with a goal in the 16th minute of the game. The Huskies quickly answered with a goal from Freshman Cyleek Zaimoff in the 17th minute to level things at 1 apiece. The Knights would score another goal in the 37th minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime for the Knights. It was a scoring spree for the Knights as they ripped off 4 straight goals, but Joseph Mathews scored 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to bring his goal-scoring total to 24 goals on the year. But the Knights take the 6-3 win to advance to the 2023 HVIAC Men's Soccer Championship game, which ends the Huskies' season at 7-6-1 after a fantastic season. While unlikely to happen, the Huskies hope that their season will continue at the USCAA National Tournament with the Bid selection show taking place on Wednesday, November 8th at 4:30 PM.

With this, the Huskies received honors in 2023. For All-HVIAC Teams, Joseph Mathews was selected to the 1st team, Alexi Marshall & Calem Mason were selected to the 2nd team, and Seth Randall, Ivan West, & Bernabe Reyes were honorable mentions. Joseph Mathews collected the 2023 Men's HVIAC Soccer Rookie of the Year with an incredible 24 goals scored this season. The Men's Soccer Coaching Staff was voted as the Coaching Staff of the Year for the third consecutive year.
