BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In a rematch of an early-season matchup, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated, 3-0, by Brooklyn College in a non-conference match at the West Quad Center on Thursday.
Brooklyn (6-9) ran away with the opening set, 25-4, leaving Sarah Lawrence (2-15) without a kill. The Gryphons gained their composure in the second set, leading by as many as seven points at 15-8. BC rebounded and strung together a pair of eight-point streaks to halt SLC, 25-17.
The Green and White took an early lead again in the third set, but a 12-2 run by Brooklyn erased the momentum. SLC kept the Bulldogs from running away, but Brooklyn closed out the sweep, 25-17.
For SLC,
Janet Tonyan (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) had a team-high three kills and led the defense with nine digs.
Jenai Richards (Kailua, Hawai'i/St. Andrew's Priory) also picked up three kills and added eight digs. Brooklyn's Jillian Escobar and Francesca LoCascio both tallied a match-high 11 kills.
The victory was the Bulldogs' second over SLC this year; on Sept. 15, Brooklyn defeated SLC, 3-0 in Bronxville.
Sarah Lawrence returns home on Friday and hosts Lehman College at 7 p.m. at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center. The Gryphons then host York College (N.Y.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
