Changelo's Hat Trick Leads ACPHS over Culinary Institute

Anthony Changelo provided all the necessary offense for the ACPHS men's soccer team on Sunday as the senior earned a hat trick by scoring all of the goals for the Panthers in a 3-1 home victory over the Culinary Institute of America on Sunday. The Panthers won the rematch of the 2011 Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference championship game, in which ACPHS won in the penalty kick round.

At the 18 minute mark of the first half, Zach Hecox found Changelo who was streaking down the right side of the field as he beat his defender and blasted a shot past the Steels' keeper to give the Panthers an early lead. It wouldn't last long as just over a minute later, CIA evened the score at one on a goal from Rob Chambers.

Later in the half, Changelo struck again, this time off an assist from Steve Sullivan as the Panthers took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Eight minutes into the second half, the Changelo-Sullivan combination connected again to increase the lead for ACPHS. The Panthers held on for the victory thanks to another stellar game in net from Adam Hoye-Simek who helped preserve the lead with a save on a penalty kick late in the second half.

With the win, ACPHS adds to its winning streak in HVMAC games as the Panthers have not lost a conference game since the 2010 conference championship game against Berkeley. ACPHS returns to action on Tuesday as they host SUNY-Adirondack.
