Match Results

NEWBURGH, N.Y.
—In the team's second match of the weekend, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis was nipped by Mount Saint Mary College, 5-4, in a non-conference match at MSMC Tennis Courts on Sunday.

Sarah Lawrence (3-3) took an early lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles points. Rookies Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) and Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) resumed their successful partnership to win their fifth-straight match as a duo, taking the No. 2 slot, 8-6. SLC also picked up a point in the No. 3 match as Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and Cecilia Ross (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) teamed for the first time and won 8-6.

In the No. 1 doubles spot, MSMC (1-3) took its first point of the day with an 8-0 shutout.

Singles play saw Garber help the cause with a win in the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-4. Rookie Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) also won in straight sets, taking the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 6-2.

With the Gryphons needing one more point to secure the match, MSMC stayed alive by taking straight-set victories in the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 positions, leveling the match at 4-4.

Two-time Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week Atkinson carried the fate of the team. Playing in the No. 2 spot for the first time, the rookie won the first set but could not keep momentum and lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; the match was Atkinson's first singles loss of the year.

Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville for the team's next match. SLC hosts Cedar Crest College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Andrews Tennis Courts.
