Women’s Volleyball Bitten by John Jay

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was swept by John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 3-0, in a non-conference match at the John Jay Dog Pound on Tuesday evening.

In the opening set, Sarah Lawrence (2-10) kept pace with the Bulldogs, notching three kills and two service aces early in the set, leading to a 7-7 tie. From there, John Jay (2-8) went on a 16-3 spree and closed out the set, 25-13. The Bulldogs led wire-to-wire in the second set, winning 25-16.

The third set saw SLC rebound from a five-point deficit to take the lead at 15-13, but John Jay bounced back by scoring 12 of the last 14 points clinching the match with a 25-17 set.

For Sarah Lawrence, outside hitter Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) led the offense with eight kills, while setter Janet Tonyan (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) anchored the defense with six digs. Tonyan also notched 12 assists, while senior Jenai Richards (Kailua, Hawai'i/St. Andrew's Priory) chipped in five digs and a block.

Sarah Lawrence heads to Keystone College in LaPlume, Pa., for two days of competition this weekend. The Gryphons will square off against Wilkes on Friday before taking on NJCU and the host Giants on Saturday.
