Men's Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers, 3-0

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Anchored by a 10-kill effort by sophomore Harrison Holmes (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Webb School), Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball swept Medgar Evers College, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Cougars' Cave on Wedensday.

Sarah Lawrence (3-14) picked up its first three-set win of the season by holding Medgar Evers (0-18) to just seven kills on the evening. The Gryphons cruised to a 25-10 win in the opening set and retained momentum to win the second and third sets, 25-12 and 25-14, respectively.

Holmes' 10-kill effort marked his fourth-straight double-digit offensive effort and the eighth time in the last nine matches that the sophomore hit double-figures in spikes. He also contributed season-highs of nine digs and five service aces.

Sophomore Riley Smith (West Linn, Ore., Palo Alto (Calif.)) also tallied a match-high nine digs, while rookie Chris Manfugas (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) followed with eight digs. Manfugas helped the offense with a season-high seven kills and also reached set a personal best with six service aces.

Setter Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M., Idyllwild Arts Academy) assisted on 23 Gryphon points, while sophomore Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) led the team with two blocks, and rookie Derek Komar (Stormville, N.Y., John Jay) also set a season-best with four digs.

For Medgar Evers, Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada, Presentation Brothers College) led the Cougars in kills, and Christopher Welsh (Brooklyn, N.Y., St. Edmund Campion Secondary School (Ontario, Canada)) posted a team-best seven digs.

On Saturday, Sarah Lawrence hosts Cooper Union and Webb Insititute for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. NCAA Division III Week kicks off Sunday when the Gryphons host Medgar Evers and Albertus Magnus College in their home finale tri-match starting at 11 a.m.
