Women's Volleyball Loses to York and St. Elizabeth

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva women's volleyball team closed out its 2013 season on Sunday with a pair of losses in a tri match. The Maccabees were defeated 3-2 (20-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 7-15) by York College, then lost to the College of St. Elizabeth 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 16-25).

The Maccabees end their 2013 season with a 3-15 overall record, including a 1-8 showing in the Skyline Conference and a 2-5 record in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

In the match against York, the Maccabees game was slow to develop. Yeshiva lost the first two sets before roaring back to win the third and fourth sets to force a tiebreaking game.

In the first set, the Maccabees and the visiting Cardinals were tied 8-8 before York rallied off four consecutive points to take a 12-8 lead. The Cardinals increased their lead the rest of the way before winning by five. In the second set, York led throughout and led by as much as 10 when the Cardinals led 19-9 before claiming the set.

In the third set, York led 16-10 midway through and looked well on their way to closing out the match. But Yeshiva came with a ferocious attack and spurted off a 12-5 rally to take a 22-21 lead before going on to victory. Yeshiva led most the way in the fourth set before claiming the win. York came from behind and took an 18-16 lead momentarily before Yeshiva outscored York 9-4 the rest of the way to win.

York though led from start to finish in the fifth set to escape with the win.

Yeshiva was led by Kerrin Ast with seven kills, while Jackie Berger added six kills and three service aces. Emily Rohan provided 18 assists, four kills, three service aces and five digs.

Against St. Elizabeth's, the Screaming Eagles raced out to a 4-0 lead and led from start to finish in the opening set. In the second set, Yeshiva led early and was ahead 14-8 at one point. But St. Elizabeth scored eight in a row to take a 16-14 lead. The Maccabees came back and led 17-16 and 18-17, but the Screaming Eagles scored five in a row to take the lead for good. Then, in the third set St. Elizabeth's lead throughout to win the match.

Yeshiva was led by Sarit Zukowsky with four kills and seven digs. Marjorie Rasinovsky had 14 digs, while Shira Genauer had 10 digs.
