Maganza Sets Up a Win for the Lady Lions

On October 13, The King's College Women's Volleyball team travelled to the College of New Rochelle (CNR) for a tri-match against the home team, the Blue Angels, and the Steels, from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). This is the first time that these Lady Lions will be playing CNR in their regular season and the third time that they will be playing CIA.

In the first set of their game against the CNR Blue Angels, the Blue Angels came out swinging with fourteen kills and nine service aces. Only coming up with two kills made by freshman Samantha Klozik and senior Isabelle Sandmeyer, the Lady Lions were unable to respond, dropping this set 10-25.

Determined to play a better set, the Lady Lions came out stronger, picking up the first point with a kill made by Sandmeyer. The Lady Lions would go on to battle CNR leading by as much as five points in the second set. Klozik was able to pick up five kills in this set and Sandmeyer four kills. Freshman Renae Maganza helping these two hitters, with a total of nine assists in this set. The Lady Lions fought hard as they tied CNR 19-19, but the Blue Angels prevailed in a close set, 25-20.

Still unable to catch the Blue Angels, the Lady Lions dropped their final set 15-25. But senior Savannah White was able to find her first kill of the night against the Blue Angels. Freshman Leah Thomas had three blocks in this match and freshman Sasha Conner was able to pick up one block as well, against the hard hits from the Blue Angels. Freshman libero Kyra Kleinsmith was able to come out of this match with four digs.

In their third matchup in the regular season against the CIA, the Lady Lions received their third win against the Steels, in this year's regular season. In all three sets the Lady Lions were able to keep the Steels under fifteen points. This winning game was supported by the power hitter duo, freshman Samantha Klozik and Isabelle Sandmeyer, each able to put away nine kills. Freshman Sasha Conner was able to contribute with five kills and senior Savannah White contributing two kills. Setter Renae Maganza had a great match, adding twenty-three assists to her freshman career. Freshman Kyra Kleinsmith came away with four digs and a kill against the Steels. Freshman Leah Thomas was able to contribute the only block seen in the match.
