PANTHERS BLANK HVCC FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Albany, N.Y. – Junior striker Sarah Cope (Broadalbin, N.Y.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences women's soccer team (8-1-1) to a 3-0 win over visiting Hudson Valley Community College (4-4-0) Monday afternoon at the ACPHS Soccer Field. The Panthers have now won five consecutive contests.

The high-powered ACPHS offense, which has now scored 41 goals in the course of its five-match winning streak, was tested early by HVCC as the match remained scoreless at halftime despite an 8-3 shots advantage for the Panthers.

Just three minutes and 36 seconds after the break, however, the Panthers struck for the only goal they would need as Cope slipped a pass ahead to freshman striker Kayli Smith (Rome, N.Y.) who finished a low shot into the net for the 1-0 lead. Cope went on to score her 12th goal of the season 15 minutes later, taking a ball that deflected off several defenders and beating goalkeeper Emily Taplin low and to the right.

Senior midfielder Frances Ripepi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) capped off the scoring as darkness approached with a long strike in the 80th minute, her 12th goal of the 2013 campaign.

Freshman goalkeeper Amy Jagareski (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) needed to make just two saves to record the shutout; the Panthers out-shot the Vikings 22-3 in the match. Taplin made 11 saves for HVCC.

The Panthers are back in action Friday, October 18 when they host SUNY Canton at 4:00 pm in their regular season home finale. ACPHS will host a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) semifinal on Saturday, October 27 against an opponent to be determined.

NOTES: ACPHS has held its opponents scoreless the last 311:50 and notched its third straight clean sheet…today's three goals put the Panthers in the USCAA national lead with 55 goals scored, two more than Maine-Machias…Cope's seventh assist moved her into a tie for third nationally in the USCAA; Smith leads that category with 11 helpers…Jagareski ranks fourth in the USCAA with a 0.73 goals-against average.
