Men's Soccer Overwhelmed by Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was defeated by Purchase College, 9-0, in a non-conference game at Purchase College Soccer Field on Thursday.

Sarah Lawrence (1-4) tallied two shots in the game. Forward Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) put a strike on goal in the 23rd minute, but the effort was deflected by PC keeper Esteban Aguilar. On the ensuing corner kick, reigning Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) lifted his shot just over the crossbar. SLC keeper Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) totaled nine saves on the day.

Purchase (3-3-1) scored its first goal of the game in the fifth minute. Junior Sanguina netted the game's first score and added a second goal three minutes later. PC's Stefan Gohler notched a hat trick on the next three goals of the game, netting his first three scores of the season in an 18-minute span.

Purchase's Hunter Wilson and Eli Wilson-Berkowitz rounded out the first-half scoring to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead at the break. Wilson and Zach Miller scored second-half goals for the home team, rounding out the 9-0 win.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the pitch on Sunday, when the Gryphons host Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Tibbetts Brook Park. Both SLC soccer teams are in action, with the women hosting ACPHS at 11 a.m., and the men kicking off at 1 p.m.
