ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—In the team's last meet of the calendar year, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming picked up a win over Bard College (2-2), 124-54, at Stevenson Athletic Center on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (6-1) concludes December by clinching its third straight season with six wins or more. With one dual remaining, the team could match its program record of seven wins, while a 7-1 record would be the team's best winning percentage (SLC finished 2012-13 at 7-2).
In the opening event, SLC's 200 yard medley relay squads swept the team points with a first-second finish. The foursome of
Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton),
Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes),
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) led the way with a time of 2:11.98.
Gryphons
Jaime Chu (Hong Kong/Monte Vista),
Alayna Bone (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island),
Dzana Ashworth (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) and
Cecilia Nicholson (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep) took second place in 2:28.01.
Distance specialist
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) won the 1000 yard freestyle in 12:22.69. The Gryphons swept the 200 yard freestyle in 1-2-3 fashion, led by Harley (2:14.40) and followed by
Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i/Kealakehe) (2:27.72) and
Monika Mednick (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) (2:28.95).
SLC's domination continued with a clean sweep of the 50 free. Risica (28.61) paced the field, while
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) (29.15) and Ashworth (31.24) took second and third place.
Pulitano (2:34.78) kept the momentum going with a win in the 200 yard individual medley, while Amberchan (2:38.00) and Bone (3:02.15) added additional points in the event.
The 100 yard butterfly saw Harley (1:09.55) touch the wall first. Gryphons Ashworth (1:19.73) and
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) (1:30.81) placed third and fourth in the event.
Risica (1:01.04) and Leonard (1:05.45) sealed the victory with first and third-place swims in the 100 yard freestyle. Their points gave the Gryphons a 96-25 edge with four events remaining.
The Gryphons went on to sweep the 100 backstroke as Amberchan (1:14.45), Mednick (1:17.50) and Mullan (1:26.35) were the first swimmers to complete the event.
Bates (6:02.58) added her second win of the day by taking the 500 yard freestyle, while Pulitano (1:24.07) posted the fastest time in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Quirk, Bates, Leonard and Mednick finished the day with a swim of 2:00.06 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Following the winter break, Sarah Lawrence returns to action with a trip to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in January. The Gryphons will then swim at the HVIAC Championships and Skidmore Women's Invitational before concluding the season at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, February 19-23.
