SeaWolves Tame Panthers in 91-54 Victory

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team earned a 91-54 win in front of its home crowd against the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Timothy D. Hagerman Alumni Day Saturday, Feb. 8.

Prior to the contest, SMCC Athletics welcomed back both men's and women's basketball alumni, friends, and family in support of the annual Hagerman scholarship.

It was the seventh time this season the SeaWolves held their opponent to 55 points or less. SMCC connected for 47.4 percent shooting and forced the Panthers into difficult selections on the other end—only converting 28.2 percent. The SeaWolves out-rebounded the opposition by 17 and netted 13 points off turnovers.

Sophomores Ian Regan (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) both threw in 12 points as Pedro Fonseca (Portland, Maine) and Anthony Lobor (Portland, Maine) each contributed 10—Lobor 12 rebounds as reigning YSCC Player of the Week.

Albany's John Ambert led all scorers in the contest with 20 points on 7-17 shooting—adding six assists and seven boards.

In a post-game interview, Associate Head Coach AJ Burton stated, "It's been fun watching this young group grow and develop collectively all season to now start playing our best basketball. We came in and executed our game plan on both ends of the court vs. Albany. It's hard to believe that we are in the final week of the regular season, but I am excited to see we finish before heading into postseason play."

SMCC wins its second in-a-row to sport a 17-7 overall record; ACPHS slips to 9-13 with three games left to play.

The SeaWolves return to the hardwood to finish the season series with the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Tip-off in Auburn, Maine is scheduled for 8 p.m.
